My PhD project focuses on the development of a liver-on-chip device that enables the study of the interactions between the eggs of the parasitic worm Schistosoma mansoni and the hepatic tissue, in order to gain a better understanding of the genesis of schistosomiasis. I work on the design, fabrication, numerical simulation and experimental testing of the microfluidic system, the integration of a co-culture model of a hepatic sinusoid using cells differentiated from human induced pluripotent stem-cells, and its application to study the parasite and the associated pathology in an innovative way.
